Goals

The global aim of the Project is to deploy a hardware and software infrastructure needed for transparent resource management, in order to make those resources available to non computation specialist researchers.

An important goal is the generation of technical capabilities and knowledge in the Grid computation area among the participant groups, paying special attention to the improvement of human resources. All the results of the project will be available for the whole Ibero American community.

In order to achive this main goal, some specific points have been identified:

  • Deployment of a functional Grid infrastructure based on the computational resources of the participants groups.
  • Development of a software layer for Grid services management:
    • Fault tolerance
    • Application monitoring for performance analysis and optimization.
  • Design of a programming environment for efficient implementation of Grid applications.
  • Web based portal for transparent accessing to Grid resources.
  • Development of several applications:
    • Medical images proccessing
    • Proteomics
    • Prevention and management of natural disasters: application to wildland fires, and floods.
    • Support systems to medical diagnosis.
    • Virtual storage of DICOM objects.

But all the researching efforts are futile without technology transfer and diffussion of the results. Then, training high cualified experts in order to provide support to potential users such as teachers, researchers, public institutions, enterprises... has been identified as a main task for the Project. So, some additional actions have been foreseen into the framework of this project, addressed to the formation of human resources, such as seminars, courses, master thesis and so on.
